Boat Safety; A Poem

Oh boy!
This one came out of my first poetry class in undergrad. Our prompt was strictly "write something in iambic tetrameter."
Boat Safety

“Why don’t we go sailing?” she said with a laugh,
But the squad had no vessel, not even a raft.
“We don’t need a sailboat,” she giggled with glee.
“We’ll skip ‘cross the waters on foot and be free!”

The squad all looked nervous and stared back in fear.
With no boat for transport their fates were not clear.
“Just come skip beside me, and I’ll show you how.
That magic’s a nuance; come follow me now!”

They scampered on forth as she bound cross the pond
and when they all followed, they tripped, sank, and drowned.
