Third episode, and I still have opinions! If you haven't already, read my review for episode one, and episode two.
As before I've already given you a spoiler warning in the title and the cover photo and here's a third. Consider yourself warned.
So we have another acting challenge this episode, sooooo... I wasn't really into it.
I find it hard to enjoy the acting when so much of it is spoiled from the rehearsals, and the jokes just don't really excite me? To top that off, their performances - which i'm finding lackluster - are given so much narrative weight, so the whole experience is off putting. So here are some loose thoughts. 1. Someone make a meme out of this please.2. Me when I'm by a ladder and a qt walks by.3. I am the Vixen in this photo.4. Unf.5. Cursèd image.6. Interests me.7. Oooooh.8. Ooooh?9. Me when I'm hit with the slightest inconvenience.10. Okay let's talk about Asia's win.
This is one of the reason's I don't like acting challenges.
Like last episode, everyone seemed on par with one another, so picking a winner felt disingenuous. I think Monique and Asia should have shared the win tbh. Monique performed well and directed well, but Asia made a silly face I guess? I guess Monique's runway look wasn't phenomenal... Then again, when the editing is too clear about stellar performances and poor performances I complain, and now that it's grey I complaining. I'm a mess here. 11. Yuhua was damned to go home the second the bottom three were announced.
You're not sending home Mayhem because she won the first challenge and the editing has too much sympathy for her. And Kameron wasn't gonna lip sync 'cuz her look was both too amazing and too unrealistic for performing.
AND THE NEXT EPISODE IS A THREE LOOK BALL. YOU'RE REALLY GONNA GET RID OF YOUR SEWING QUEEN RIGHT BEFORE THE SEWING HEAVY CHALLENGE? Well, the editing told us Monique sews too, so I guess we have that to look forward too. 12. You are not prepared for how spicy Untucked is.
The Vixen lays down some woke and spicy race politics about her beef with Aquaria.
My only commentary on that is, given the facts: Aquaria is being bitchy; Vixen is being bitchy; Vixen is valid in pointing out that viewers will stereotype her (Vixen) as being an angry black woman. The bitchiness is still exhausting. At least it's not manufactured though. The exhaustion is organic. The Vixen does sort of drag Aquaria for crying, which pulls me in two directions. Since Aquaria is crying because she dished out drama that she couldn't handle being thrown back at her, I lean towards not sympathizing with her because like, don't dish if you can't take, but I lean towards sympathizing with her because regardless of how it comes about, it's valid to feel shitty. I'll have to watch Untucked again, but editing of Vixen's comments sort of tangle up two messages of "Aquaria is crying 'cuz she can't take it" with "Aquaria will come across as being in the right because she's white," which independently are fine, but the cutting of the scene makes it sound like "you're not allowed to cry if you have white privilege." Either way, Vixen is valid for feeling frustrated for being dragged; Aquaria is valid for feeling frustrated for being dragged back; Vixen is valid for feeling frustrated about the race politics of situational optics. At least there's no more Cracker Aquaria drama, right?
